WelisaWelisa DocGen
v1.1.0 welisa.com

Five-minute quick start#

The fastest path from a fresh install to your first generated PDF. Every step takes less than a minute.

Step 1 — Install#

Use the install link for your environment from the Installation page: production or Developer Edition orgs install through login.salesforce.com, sandboxes and scratch orgs through test.salesforce.com. Choose Install for Admins Only, accept the notice about third-party access, and wait for the confirmation e-mail (usually two to five minutes).

Note

Salesforce shows an orange notice that the package "is not authorized for distribution as part of Salesforce's AppExchange Partner Program". That is expected — Welisa DocGen is distributed directly by Welisa, not through the AppExchange. Tick the checkbox and continue.

Step 2 — Assign yourself the admin permission sets#

  1. Setup → Users → Permission Sets.
  2. Open Welisa Admin → Manage Assignments → Add Assignments, tick your user, Assign.
  3. Repeat for Welisa Signing (it carries the signature features and the Welisa Licence tab).

Or from the command line:

sf org assign permset -n welisa__DocGen_Admin -n welisa__DocGen_Signing -o <org> -b <username>

You can now create templates and generate documents.

Step 3 — Enable the PDF rendering release update#

Welisa DocGen renders PDFs through Salesforce's Visualforce PDF service, which sits behind a release update. Without it, image-heavy PDFs fail silently and some orgs print raw CSS at the top of every PDF.

  1. Setup → Release Updates.
  2. Find "Use the Visualforce PDF Rendering Service for Blob.toPdf() Invocations".
  3. Get Started → Enable.

One-time, org-wide. If the button is greyed out and reads Enable Test Run, the update is not enabled yet — see Troubleshooting.

Step 4 — Check the licence#

Open the Welisa DocGen app from the App Launcher and click the Welisa Licence tab. It must read Licensed. Nothing in the org needs configuring. If it reads Not licensed or Unknown, press Check now once; if it still does not, contact Welisa.

Step 5 — Make your first template#

  1. In the Welisa DocGen app, open the Command Hub — you land on the template library.
  2. On the Create New tab pick Start from a Design and choose a starter such as Record Report (Account). Starters use standard fields only, so they render on any org.
  3. Give it a Template Name ("My First Account Brief"), optionally pick a company logo from the Asset Library and a Sample Record for live previews, then Create & Open Designer.
  4. The Visual Designer opens on your document: merge fields appear as pills, tables resize by dragging cell edges, and the toolbar covers formatting, tables, images and page setup. Edit anything (or nothing), then click Save as New Version to activate it.
  5. Click Download Sample in the designer toolbar to see the rendered PDF with your sample record's real data.

Other starting points on the same tab: I Have an Existing File (upload a Word, HTML, PowerPoint, Excel or fillable PDF template), Start from a Blank Canvas (position blocks to the inch) and Generate with AI (a ready-to-paste prompt for your own AI assistant). See Templates.

Step 6 — Generate#

  1. Open any Account record.
  2. Use the Welisa Runner component on the page. If it is not there yet, edit the page in Lightning App Builder and drag in Welisa Runner, then save and activate the page.
  3. Pick My First Account Brief → Generate.
  4. The PDF appears in the record's Files related list and downloads to your browser.

That is the whole lifecycle. Real templates layer on child loops for tables (line items), images, conditional sections, charts, barcodes and e-signature placements — all with the same merge-tag patterns. Your growing library lives on the Your Templates tab, searchable and sortable.

Tip

The most common first-time issue is the runner not showing on the page: edit the page, add Welisa Runner, save. "Insufficient privileges" means Step 2 was skipped. An empty picker usually means no template is Active for that object.
